The Jaguar XK range from the fifties needs just little introduction. The XK120 made a huge impact on the world back in 1948, because of it?s spectacular design and performance. However, as a daily driver, it did have a few flaws. These were addressed with the introduction of the XK140 in 1954. While building on the technology of the legendary Jaguar XK engine, now with increased power uitput, the car was improved significantly on many aspects.

Although the clean, flowing lines of the XK120 had been retained, many changes were made under the bonnet. The engine and bulkhead were moved forward, thereby freeing up a lot of space for the passengers. A better heating system and revised steering column offered more comfort. The new rack and pinion steering offered more precision. And with the introduction of the C-Type engine, the XK140 offered substantially more performance than the original XK120. Finally, the more substantial bumpers offered increased protection for the delicate bodywork, which was a major issue, especially in the United States.

The car we offer is an original SE model with the rare and desirable C-Type cylinder head, wire wheels, and dual exhaust system, all fitted at the Brown?s Lane Works. The car was sold new in the United states and from there was repatriated to Italy in the 1990?s, where it was restored by Italian craftsmen to a very high standard. As part of the restoration, all the mechanicals, including the engine, as well as the bodywork, were fully rebuilt to original specification. The only concession to originality is the Kenlowe cooling fan, the rest of the car is absolutely period correct.

After the rebuild, the car was used sparingly, accumulating approximately 7000 kms in little over 10 years. Today the car is still in an absolutely beautiful condition. The combination of the Opalescent Silver Grey paintwork with the red leather simply looks stunning and fresh, with a very nice patina adding just the right amount of character to the car. The engine is one of the smoothest XK engines we?ve come across, giving a silky power delivery with the typical ?Cat Snarl?exhaust noise that the XK?s were famous for. With many XK?s nowadays being modified and repainted in traditional colours, this eyecatching example really stands out of the crowd and truly takes you back to the glamourous and elegant heydays of 1950?s Hollywood.
